Traveling in Oklahoma with firearms and ____________, you get pulled over by a cop. Now what?
Current Oklahoma Gun law says:
When detained by law enforcement, You Must identify "At First Opportunity" if you or your passenger are in possession of a firearm.
New Oklahoma Gun Law, Effective November 1st, 2019, says:
When detained by law enforcement, and if you or your passenger are in possession of a firearm, You Must identify WHEN ASKED by law enforcement.
No person shall be required to identify themselves as a licensee or as lawfully in possession of a firearm if the law enforcement officer does not demand the information.
However, when detained by law enforcement, it is good practice to identify yourself or your passenger if you have a firearm in your possession, whether they ask or not.
Also, You do not have to identify yourself as a handgun licensee if there is no firearm in the drivers or the passengers possession or in any vehicle in which the person is driving or is a passenger.
Need to Know: Title 21, §1290.8
C. At all times when in possession of a firearm you must have your valid handgun license or valid military identification and a valid Oklahoma drivers license or valid Oklahoma state photo identification.
Will update when I learn how this effects the November 1st permitles carry.
